Description

This is a milestone dating from the early 19th century, made of painted stone. It has a semi-circular shape on a square base with broaches at the corners. The inscription reads "S:KL/4:6¾", where "S" stands for Sedbergh and "KL" stands for Kirkby Lonsdale. This milestone was placed on the turnpike road from Sedbergh to Greta Bridge, which was established in 1762.
