Description
The Church of St John is a church built in 1842, attributed to George Webster. It is constructed of stone rubble with slobbered mortar and features a slate roof. The church has a four-bay nave, a chancel apse, and a west bell turret. The top cornice and coped gables have kneelers and finials on the east side. There is a weathered buttress towards the west end and diagonal buttresses. The apse contains three stepped lancets, while the west end features a pointed entrance with a datestone above that reads "AD/1841". The small corbelled square bell turret has a string course and a projecting embattled parapet, with round-headed louvred bell openings.
Inside, the church has flat ceilings, with the apse ceiling adorned with a cornice and a rose. The chancel arch has canted jambs with caps. There are boards displaying the Lord's Prayer, Creed, and Commandments. A roll moulding surrounds the east window, and there is a west gallery above the vestry and stair. The altar rail is supported by cast iron bracketed supports.
