Description

This milepost, located approximately 10 metres north of the junction with the B6270 in Downholme, dates from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape, standing about 700mm high. The left face features a hand pointing right with the inscription "RICHMOND 5 MILES," while the right face has a hand pointing left with "REETH 6 MILES." At the top, there is a triangular face that reads "LEYBURN H.D." This milepost was installed after the reorganisation of highway authorities under the County Councils Act of 1888.
