Description

The milepost at the parish boundaries of Stainton and Ellerton Abbey is a late 19th-century structure made of cast iron. It stands approximately 500 mm high and has a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing to the right with the inscription "RICHMOND 7 MILES," while the right side features a hand pointing to the left with "REETH (4) MILES." At the top, there is a triangular face that reads "LEYBURN H.D." This milepost dates from after the reorganization of highway authorities under the County Councils Act of 1888.
