Description

Swale Farmhouse and its attached outbuildings are two dwellings that have been converted into a farmhouse. They date from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed watershot rubble and has a stone slate roof. It features a long range with a central house that was originally divided into two, along with outbuildings at both ends, all covered by a single roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a rear outshut added to part of it.

The house has a total of three first-floor windows, plus one modern window. The windows are small, square, four-pane sashes with stone sills and lintels. There are two simple projecting porches, quoins at the corners, and two ridge stacks. The farm buildings on the left side are not of particular interest. The farm buildings on the right, which were formerly used as a cottage and byre, are now a coal-house and byre with a hay-loft above. These buildings have two windows and two doors on the ground floor, along with a pitching door on the first floor. The outshut to the byre includes an end entry cart-shed with a rounded arch made of dressed sandstone voussoirs. There is also a house from around 1898 attached to the rear of the farmhouse, which is not of particular interest.
