Description

Home Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and features an artificial slate roof. The building has two storeys and four first-floor windows, with quoins at the corners. A central gabled porch contains a 20th-century door, which is positioned in front of a board door framed by a chamfered ashlar surround with a triangular soffit to the lintel.

On the ground floor, there are various window styles: a 20th-century casement window sits below a hoodmould; a two-light chamfered mullion window with vertical iron bars and leaded lights is located below a dripmould; another casement window is below a hoodmould; and a four-pane sash window is positioned below a dripmould. The first floor features 20th-century casement windows.

Notable architectural details include kneelers carved with female heads, ashlar copings, and ashlar stacks at both ends and between the second and third bays. At the rear, there is a later single-storey projecting wing with blocked fire window surrounds, some of which have trefoil heads. Inside this wing, there is a chamfered ashlar doorway with a triangular soffit to the lintel, along with more kneelers carved with female heads.

On the left return, in the gable, there is a blocked opening with a decorative surround featuring diaper moulding, coats of arms, and small heads at the bottom corners. The sides of the surround display large bead and reel moulding, with corbels featuring female and male heads at the top. These decorative details may have been sourced from Downholme Hall, a medieval building that is now in ruins.
