Description

AUSTWICK HIGH STREET SD 76 NE (north side) 8/20 The Cuddy and Garden Cottage 20.2.58 (formerly listed as 'Backfold' - II Formerly one house, now 2 cottages. Dated 1712 with C19 and C20 alterations. Squared rubble, stone dressings, stone slate roof. Formerly central staircase plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Paired central entrances: that on left has moulded surround and decorated lintel dated and inscribed 11 Al; hoodmould with spiral stops, plank door. Entrance to right has plain early C19 surround, 4 panel door.Ground floor dripmould with spiral stops. 3 ground floor windows are all double-chamfered: that to right is 2-light chamfered mullioned, sashes without glazing bars; 2 left-hand windows were lowered and have C20 casements, with 2 similar windows above on upper floor. Right-hand upper floor window is double chamfered 2-light mullioned, C20 casements. Right-hand gable end and left-hand ridge stacks. To right is C20 projecting outshut with entrance to Garden Cottage.
