Description

Ivy Cottage is a late 17th-century building, with alterations in the mid-18th century, early 19th century and 20th century. It was originally two cottages, now combined into one. The construction is of rubble, with painted stone dressings, and a slate roof. The front has three bays, with paired entrances located right of centre. The left-hand entrance has a simple surround and a shallow hood, and both entrances have four-panel doors, with the upper two panels glazed. On the ground floor, the window to the left has a mid-18th century moulded surround and a flat-faced mullion; the other ground floor window is a 20th-century casement. The right-hand ground floor window is a late 17th-century two-light chamfered mullioned window with sashes lacking glazing bars. The upper floor has three windows: a tall window with a plain surround, and two former late 17th-century two-light chamfered mullioned windows, of which the mullions have been removed and replaced with 20th-century casements. A gable-end stack is on the right-hand side, and a ridge stack is on the left. The return to the right-hand side includes a blind window on the upper floor with a chamfered surround and a decorated head in a late 17th-century style, situated above a projecting corbel. The building exhibits group value.
