Description

This is a capital dating from the 5th to 6th century, originating from the Eastern Roman Empire. It is made of marble and features a tapering cylindrical shape that flares out at the base. The surface is intricately carved with deeply incised lines that depict primitive acanthus or other leaf forms. The capital is inverted.
