Description

The Market Cross is a structure that dates from the medieval period and the 19th century. It features a rounded shaft that is set in a square base, which rests on three octagonal steps. The octagonal capital is topped with a ball finial that was added in the 19th century. Originally, the Market Cross was located at the junction of Main Street, Market Street, and Mill Brow, but it was relocated to its current position in 1822.
