Description
Turf Fen Mill is a tower windpump built in 1880. It is constructed of brick and features a weatherboard cap. The mill has a three-storey tapering tower with a door on the east side beneath a segmental arch. There is one segmental window on the first floor on both the north and south sides. The cap is boat-shaped and includes a petticoat and fan cradle, which supports the fantail and machinery. All the machinery is intact, including the cast iron windshaft, crown wheel, and pit wheel. The pit wheel drives two external scoop wheels through gearing, providing both high and low ratios. This mill is unique for its double scoop wheels and gearing. The remains of the stocks and sails are currently under restoration.
