Description
This description is for a pair of gate piers and an attached gate located at the west end of the main avenue approach to Holme Hall in Bakewell. The gate piers date from the mid-19th century, while the gate itself is from the late 19th century. The piers are made of ashlar sandstone and feature large square sections with cavetto-moulded plinths, plain shafts, and boldly overhanging cornices. They are topped with depressed ogee pedestals that have large ball finials. The gate consists of vertical slats supported by two mid-rails, connected by crossed and vertical bars, and has three-leaf iron finials at the top. The stiles of the gate curl over onto the top rail.
