Description
Lumford House, now divided into three dwellings, was originally built in the mid-18th century. A wing was added to the rear in the 19th century, and a further extension was constructed to the front-right in the mid-20th century. The house is built of coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings, and has a stone slate roof. The rear wing has a Welsh slate roof, and the rear of the building is of limestone rubble.
The building presents a two-storey, five-window front, extended to seven windows by the later addition, with a two-window wing to the rear left. It has a plinth, raised quoins, sill bands to the ground and first floors, and an eaves lintel band beneath an ashlar gutter. Number 1 occupies the original house’s first four bays and features a projecting, part-glazed porch with a barrel roof, arched cornice with carving, and a ball finial. The front has plain lintels to the 6/6 sash windows, with a wider central pane to each, and the first-floor windows are linked by an eaves band. Number 2 incorporates the original house's fifth bay, and two matching 20th-century bays. It has a part-glazed 6-panel door within a wooden doorcase with a segmental pediment, and no window above. The building has ashlar gable copings and ashlar end stacks with bands and cornices, along with two similar ridge stacks. The left return has a gable with a blind window featuring imposts, a round arch, and a keystone. The right return, facing the rear yard, includes a boarded door to the left of a 6/6 sash window, and a 6-pane casement window. Above these are two 3/3 sash windows.
The interior has not been inspected.
