Description

The perimeter wall of the garden to the east of Holme Grange is a garden wall, probably from the 18th century, constructed from coursed limestone. It encloses a garden that measures approximately 50 meters by 65 meters. The wall runs along the north side of the garden and serves as a retaining wall for the gardens of Holme Hall, with its east end adjoining the Summerhouse at Holme Hall. The retaining wall is about 3 meters high, and the west end returns south as a freestanding section featuring an altered round-arched gateway and a square-headed gateway near Holme Grange, the latter decorated with faceted motifs. The east end of the retaining wall also returns south as a freestanding section, while the enclosure is completed by a lower wall against the north side of Holme Lane. This wall is included for its group value as an important part of the built landscape surrounding Holme Hall.
