SK2169 HOLME LANE 831-1/3/101 (North side) Perimeter wall of garden to east of Holme Grange

Garden wall. Probably C18. Coursed limestone. Encloses garden approx. 50mx65m to east of Holme Grange (qv). Wall across north side of garden forms a retaining wall to gardens of Holme Hall (qv), its east end adjoins the Summerhouse at Holme Hall (qv). Retaining wall approximately 3m in height; west end returns south as a freestanding section with altered round-arched gateway and a square-headed gateway near Holme Grange, the latter with faceted motifs. East end of retaining wall returns south as a freestanding section; the enclosure is completed by lower wall against north side of Holme Lane. Included for group value as an important element in the built landscape around Holme Hall.
