Description
This is a section of the west boundary wall of the Holme Hall grounds, along with attached gate piers, likely built in the mid-19th century and incorporating a pair of earlier gate piers. The wall is constructed from coursed limestone with ashlar sandstone piers. It connects the garages at Holme Grange to the gateway on the west side of Holme Hall. The wall stands approximately 1.8 meters high and stretches about 40 meters in length. At the south end, there is a carriage entrance featuring square-sectioned ashlar piers with slight cornices and upswept pedestals topped with ball finials. Short quadrant walls link to lower outer piers designed in the same style. The wall has flat copings and curves gently to connect with the earlier gate piers, which have lozenges and ovals set in sunken panels, along with cornices that also feature ball finials. A short section of the wall continues to the west.
