Description
The wall, gate piers, and gates surrounding the grounds of Old Hall are located on three sides: north, west, and south. This structure features gate piers that mark the former entrance, along with two small doorways that provide access to the hall grounds and to Old Hall Cottage on Burley Road. The wall is likely mostly from the early 20th century, but it includes some sections from the 18th century. It is made of coursed sandstone rubble topped with a curved brick coping. The older section on the west is constructed of banded sandstone and ironstone, which is coursed and squared. This section includes two piers with facetted ball finials and a small gateway that has a segmental arched head, stone voussoirs, and projecting keystones, along with a heavily panelled door that features high-quality finishes, possibly crafted by Goodhart Rendel. The wall continues to the south, where there is a small 4-centred arched doorway leading to Old Hall Cottage, complete with heavy wooden doors.
