Description
These are a pair of cottages, likely with a core dating back to the 17th century, originally part of a row of several dwellings. They were converted into two separate cottages and altered in 1925 by H. Goodhart Rendel. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble with a thatched roof. The long range includes the smaller School Cottage on the left, partially hidden by a modern extension containing the entrance. To the right of School Cottage are three 16-light sash windows and two casement windows, all of which are replacements, although one casement retains a chamfered lintel with ornate stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The recessed doorway features panelled rebates, and beyond it, in a buttressed section of walling, are two further casement windows. The building was significantly heightened in 1925, and now has four dormer windows to the left of the doorway. The axial stacks, built of banded brick and stone, also date from 1925. A projecting wing was added to the rear around 1925; this is asymmetrical and picturesque, featuring a roof that slopes down to the left, weatherboarding in the gable, and a thatched polygonal turret wrapping around the right-hand angle.
