Description
This milepost, located on the south side of Buxton Road in Macclesfield Forest, dates from around 1820 and is made of cast iron. It features a cylindrical head mounted on a narrower cylindrical post. The northwest face displays the distance to Buxton as 8 miles, while the east face indicates that Macclesfield is 3 and 3/4 miles away. The maker's name, J Harrison Ltd. Derby, is also inscribed on the post. This milepost is part of a complete set of bollard mileposts along the new Macclesfield to Rainow Buxton turnpike established in 1821, with three others located in Macclesfield Forest and one in Wildboarclough.
