Description
This is a bollard milepost dating from around 1820, located on the south side of Buxton Road in Macclesfield Forest. It is made of cast iron and features a cylindrical head on a narrower cylindrical post. The milepost has three panels, with the north face indicating "BUXTON 7 MILES" and the east face reading "MACCLD 4 3/4 MILES." The maker's name, J Harrison Ltd. Derby, is also displayed on the post.
This milepost is part of a complete set of bollard mileposts along the new Macclesfield to Buxton turnpike established in 1821. There are three other similar mileposts in Macclesfield Forest, two in Rainow, and another in Wildboarclough.
