Description
This milepost, located on the east side of Buxton Road in Macclesfield Forest, dates from around 1820 and is made of cast iron. It features a cylindrical head mounted on a narrower cylindrical post, with three panels. The north-west face displays the distance to Buxton as 6 miles, while the south-west face indicates Macclesfield is 5 and 3/4 miles away. The post also bears the maker's name, J Harrison Ltd. Derby. This milepost is part of a complete set of bollard mileposts along the new Macclesfield to Buxton turnpike established in 1821, with three others located in Macclesfield Forest, two in Rainow, and another in Wildboarclough.
