Description
This is a milepost located 4 miles from Buxton and 7 and 3/4 miles from Macclesfield, dating from 1821. It is made of cast iron and has a bollard type design with a belled-out base. The head of the milepost is divided into three panels by raised beads: the panel on the right indicates "Buxton 4 Miles," the panel on the left shows "Macclesfield 7 3/4 Miles," and the rear panel is blank. The maker's name, "J Harrison, Derby," is inscribed vertically on the stem, with all lettering raised.
