Description

The obelisk at Dog Hole Cottage, dating from the mid-19th century, is made of gritstone and sits on a limestone base. It features a square base raised on steps, with the lower stage decorated with a band of reeding at the base. Each face of the obelisk has a slightly recessed square panel containing a carved motif. Above this, there is a projecting moulded band topped with a squat obelisk. Each face also includes a triangular frieze below and a Greek Key frieze above, with raised carved patera over the inscribed name "BOB" on the front. The top of the obelisk has a cable moulded cornice, and the carved figure on top is likely a portrait of Bob, the dog commemorated by this monument. The obelisk is located within the front garden of No. 2, Dog Hole Cottage, which is not included in this listing.
