Description

There are three obelisks located within the gardens of Edgemoor, which is not included in this listing. These obelisks date from around 1788 and were originally designed to hold three lamps that illuminated John Carr's Crescent. They were initially situated at the foot of The Slopes but were moved in 1818. One obelisk is positioned to the southwest of the lake, another is located in the field behind, and the third is at the rear of the house. The obelisks are made of limestone and feature a tapering octagonal shaft with a moulded spreading base, resting on an octagonal square-cut plinth that has three recessed panels. The squared stone base at ground level has chamfered corners, and each obelisk stands approximately 4 meters high.
