Description
Old Farmhouse at Town Head Farm is a farmhouse built in 1639. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and features massive flush quoins. The roof is made of stone slate. The building has two storeys and three bays, arranged in a T-plan.
On the west side, there is a gabled projecting bay that contains a single light, which is the remnant of a larger recessed and ovolo moulded window, now with a 19th-century door inserted in its place. The doorcase is massively quoined and features a four-centred arched lintel with a hoodmould, located in the western corner of the recessed range. The door itself is a plank door.
To the east, there is a 3-light recessed and ovolo moulded window, which was originally a 4-light window. The central light now has a glazing bar sash, and there is a moulded hoodmould above it. There is also a blocked 2-light recessed and ovolo moulded window next to the door on the east wall of the crosswing. Above the original door, there is an inserted opening.
On the east side, just under the eaves, there is a datestone inscribed with 'RG CG 1639'. Further to the east, there is another 3-light recessed and ovolo moulded window. On the west side, in the gable of the crosswing, there is a 2-light recessed and ovolo moulded window with a dripmould, which was formerly a 3-light window.
