Description
This is an 18th-century barn located to the east of Townend Farmhouse in Chelmorton. It is constructed from coursed limestone with gritstone dressings and features chamfered quoins. The barn has a stone slate roof and stone coped gables with moulded kneelers. It consists of three bays and has two storeys on either side of a central threshing floor.
On the east elevation, there is a central cart entrance with a segmental head, surrounded by chamfered quoining and a keystone. At both ends of the barn, there are doorcases with chamfered quoining and keystones. The barn also has a regular pattern of square breathers. Above the southern side, there is a circular opening featuring four keystones, while the northern side has a modern hayloft entrance that has been inserted. This barn is included in the listing for its group value.
