Description
Townend Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been divided into two parts. It dates from 1634 and the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of rendered stone with gritstone dressings and quoins. It features ground and first floor sill bands, as well as a stone plinth. The roof is made of stone slate, with gable end stone stacks that have plain bands. The gables are stone coped, and there is a low parapet wall with a moulded eaves cornice.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays. The central doorcase has a semi-circular head, fluted pilasters, and moulded imposts on plain bases. Above the doorcase is a moulded pediment supported by stone brackets. The door itself is flush panelled and has a traceried fanlight. On either side of the door are Venetian windows with stepped aedicules and glazing bar sashes. Above the door, there is a semi-circular headed glazing bar sash with a moulded aedicule.
At the rear, there is a four-centred arched doorway with a lintel inscribed 'IB 1634', along with a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. The original 18th-century leaded lights can still be seen in the first floor west window.
