Description
Old Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1630, with some minor alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins, and features stone slate roofs with overhanging eaves, moulded stone copings on the gables, and two stone ridge stacks, one of which is massive and located on the east side. The building has two storeys plus attics and consists of four bays, with the western bay being advanced.
The entrance is a lobby plan with a flush quoined, chamfered doorcase that holds a 20th-century plank door. To the east, there is a 5-light recessed and chamfered mullion and transom window with a dripmould. The west side features a similar 4-light window and a 2-light window located in the angle of the building. The central bay has a prominent 6-light recessed and chamfered mullion and transom window, which includes a major central mullion and a dripmould. Above the door, there is a stone plaque inscribed 'IBFB 1630', along with another 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. The east side has a deeper 5-light window and the west side has a similar 4-light window. In the angle, there is a 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, and further to the west in the advanced bay, there is another 5-light window with a dripmould. Above, in the gable, there is a similar 4-light window with a dripmould. The east side also features a full dormer with a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. All the windows have either two-pane casements or fixed lights, and the west gable wall has additional mullioned windows.
Inside, the farmhouse has a 17th-century bracketed stone fireplace in the kitchen, original oak panelled doors in most rooms with original latches, and a stone newel staircase that spans two floors, with the lower flight covered by wooden steps from the 19th century. Additionally, the west bedroom features oak panelling and a panelled overmantle above a stone bolection-moulded fireplace.
