Description

This is a milepost located approximately 200 yards southwest of Brownlow Bridge, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features raised lettering. The milepost has a triangular shape with a chamfered top. The top face is inscribed with "BUTTERTON." The left-hand face lists distances to Warslow (1¼ miles), Longnor (5½ miles), and Buxton (11½ miles). The right-hand face indicates distances to Onecote (2 miles), Ipstones (6 miles), Froghall (8 miles), Leek (8½ miles), and Cheadle (11 miles).
