Description

This 18th-century milestone is located 80 meters east of Gnathole on the south side of Macclesfield Road in Lyme Handley. It is made of white-washed sandstone and features black-painted incised lettering. The milestone has an acute isosceles triangle shape with a curved top. The west face displays the distances to Chapel (5 miles), Sheffield (27 miles), and Chesterfield (28 miles), while the east face indicates the distance to Macclesfield (6 miles).
