Description

The Cottage is a house built in 1765 and the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone with gritstone dressings, topped with a stone slate roof and stone coped gables featuring moulded kneelers. The building has one ridge stack and two gable end stacks, which are rendered. It stands two storeys tall with a south elevation that has five bays. The corners of the building have raised quoins.

From left to right on the south elevation, there is a glazing bar sash window set in a raised stone surround, followed by a doorway with a stone lintel and jambs, featuring a raised and fielded panelled door. Next is a canted bay window with glazing bar sashes, then another doorway with a moulded stone surround and hoodmould, also with a raised and fielded panelled door. This is followed by a similar canted bay window. Above, there are five glazing bar sash windows in raised stone surrounds. A datestone inscribed 'FC 1765' is located above the door.
