Description
Springfield House is a house built in 1790, located in the parish of Hartington Town Quarter on Dig Street. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with flush gritstone dressings and quoins, featuring a moulded eaves cornice and a slate roof. The house has large 19th-century stone gable end stacks with plain fillets and overhanging cornices, as well as stone coped gables with plain kneelers.
The building is three storeys high and has three bays. The central entrance features a semi-circular headed door with stepped jambs and projecting impost blocks, topped by a flat hood supported by tall brackets. On either side of the door are glazing bar sash windows in flush surrounds, with three similar windows above. There are two shallower windows at the eaves, and between them is a circular plaque inscribed with '1790'.
The rear elevation includes a central stairwell window that spans three floors and has four transoms. There is a single-storey addition to the east and a 2-light flush mullion window to the west, with two similar windows on either side of the staircase above.
