Description
Shakerley is a house, now used as a store, dating from 1667. It is built of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a stone slate roof. The roof features a stone coped gable with moulded kneelers on the west side, while the south side has remnants of a similar gable, and the east side lacks copings. The building is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout.
On the west elevation, the gabled bay on the left has a single light window on the ground floor, a 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window on the first floor, and a similar window in the gable. The return wall features a single light window on each floor, both with recessed and chamfered surrounds. To the right, there are two later openings.
The east elevation has, on the left, a slit window with a stone lintel, followed by 20th-century double cart entrance doors topped with a moulded keystone inscribed 'IS'. There is also a single light window with a much weathered chamfered surround and a doorway with a stone surround featuring a moulded keystone inscribed '1667'. The first floor has the remains of a former 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, which is now partly blocked, alongside an early 19th-century window with chamfered jambs and a lintel with a keystone.
