Barn And Cowhouse Approximately 15 Metres To South East Of Ughill Manor

This barn and cowhouse, located approximately 15 metres southeast of Ughill Manor, is likely from the 17th century. It features a cruck frame made of coursed gritstone rubble and has a damaged stone slate roof. The building is single storey with three internal bays and an aisled outshut extending to the two right bays. It has quoins and a cart entry in the first bay, which includes a damaged board door and a concrete lintel above. The outshut on the right has quoined surrounds for two board doors, with the right door featuring a flat-pointed lintel. Inside, there are four cruck pairs that rise from near the ground, with a stylobate next to the aisle and the right cruck embedded in the end gable. The wallplate spanning the aisle has soffit mortices, and while most tie beams have been removed, some windbraces remain connected to single purlins. The ridge is square-set on a saddle apex, except for the left truss which has a crossing apex.
