Description
This building is a farmbuilding that has been converted into a garage and stable, located immediately to the west of Fair House Farmhouse in Low Bradfield. It likely has a core dating back to the 17th century, with some alterations to its walls. The structure features internal timber framing, coursed gritstone rubble, and a stone slate roof. It is an elongated range with three cruck bays situated on a sloping site, with two storeys at the downhill end and one storey at the uphill end. The left-hand section of the building projects forward. There is a large 20th-century boarded double door on the left side under a wooden lintel, while the right-hand bay is open-fronted, and other openings have been altered. Inside, there are four pairs of cruck trusses. Two of the downhill trusses are set high in the walling, with the tie beam sawn off in the left truss, and both have collars below the ends that meet a diagonal-set ridge. A similar low truss on the right is set on stylobats and features soffit-mortices to the collar and windbraces to single purlins. The fourth truss, located in the right gable, has a crossed apex.
