Description
Nether Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century, with mid-18th century and 19th century alterations. It is constructed from deeply coursed, squared, and tooled gritstone, topped with stone slate roofs. The front features a symmetrical 5-bay facade from the 18th century, with an additional 19th century bay to the right and a 17th century range at the rear. The building is two storeys high and has a plinth and projecting quoins. There are three semi-circular steps leading up to a 20th century boarded door, which is framed by an architrave with a pulvinated frieze and cornice. The windows all have plain projecting architraves and 19th century 4-pane sashes, except for a smaller casement window above the door. The eaves course is coved, and there are shaped kneelers and gable copings. Each gable features a corniced ashlar stack, with an additional stack to the right of the fifth bay. The matching 19th century extension to the right has projecting quoins, a doorway to the left in a square-faced stone surround, and a sashed window on each floor. At the rear, the 17th century range retains remnants of double-chamfered mullion windows on each return.
