Description
The stables to the Old Post Office are a stable and hearse house built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed and squared gritstone and feature a horizontally punched stone slate roof. The building has a symmetrical plan and stands two storeys tall.
The central carriage entrance is highlighted by a projecting surround with an engaged Doric column on each side, a keyed segmental arch, and a cornice. On either side of the entrance, there are flanking casement windows and a board door at each end, all set in an ashlar surround. A band runs at cornice level, above which is a central casement window with quoined reveals. This building is included partly for its group value.
