Description
This building is an outbuilding located immediately southeast of Nantddu farmhouse. It includes 18th-century cowhouses at the southern end, the remains of a four-bay cruck barn in the center, and a 19th-century stable at the northern end. The original wall-framing is no longer intact, and the walls are now constructed from a mix of rubble stone, brick, studwork, and weatherboarding. The roof is made of tin, and there are external steps leading to a granary loft at the north end. The structure features two eaves-height double door entry bays, five split boarded doors, and a modern gated bay.
Inside, three full cruck trusses remain, along with attached wall posts. These include a tie-beam and collar with lap joints, a notched collar, a butted apex, and a broad ridge. There are slots for three tiers of trenched purlines. The tie-beam is tenoned into the wall posts, and the base of each post is pegged onto the backs of the cruck blades. The southern truss was once infilled. Carpenter's marks are visible, and the trusses are numbered, although not in sequence. Currently, the barn is used as a cowhouse, featuring boarded stalling and a feeding passage.
