Description
Graig is a two-storey building from the 18th century, constructed of painted rubble stone with a slate roof. It features two squared rubble end stacks and two eaves dormers on the front elevation, along with a modern lean-to porch. The date stone is now obscured in the porch roof space. The windows are small-paned, iron-framed, and set under brick cambered heads.
Inside, there is much period detail, including a fine plank and muntin screen that divides the two main ground-floor rooms, featuring a chamfered head and base rail, chamfered muntins, and a round-headed doorway. Other room partitions consist of heavy pegged studs with woven lath infill. The building has exposed beams with scroll stops, one of which is supported by a moulded bracket fixed to the fireplace lintel. There is a large open fireplace with a bread oven and a smaller parlour fireplace, both adorned with scroll-stopped timber lintels. Additional features include heavy boarded and battened doors, flagstone floors, and a later stair with a squared newel, stick balusters, and a boarded underside. Notably, carvings on the fireplace lintel depict a bunch of grapes and the date 1728, which are said to have been made in the 1950s.
