Description
The farm building at Moat Farm dates from the mid-17th century and has been encased in late 18th-century brickwork. It is constructed of red English garden wall bond brick and features a slate roof. The building is two storeys high.
On the yard front, there is a projecting plinth. To the extreme left, there is a double garage door from the 20th century. The ground floor has two 19th-century stable doors and one undivided door, all with flat lintels made of headers. There are six 20th-century windows on the ground floor, and a 20th-century external staircase is located to the extreme right. The first floor includes two square pitch holes with doors, one loading door, and one door at the top of the stairs on the right.
Inside, there are two pairs of full crucks. One pair features a later cambered tie beam and collar, along with a yoke. The principals on either side are now redundant due to the raising of the roof level, with diagonal struts linking the crucks to the principals. Spurs at the level of the current wall top support new principals. The other cruck truss has a tie beam from the 18th or 19th century, with a collar above that connects to a second, more delicate collar via a slender central strut. A third collar above supports a crown post. The original principals remain in place, with 45-degree struts linking them to the cruck blades, and spurs at the level of the wall top supporting new principals.
