Description
The war memorial in Bakewell was built around 1920 to commemorate those who lost their lives in the First World War. It is constructed from ashlar sandstone and features a square base made up of three steps. Above this base is a square pedestal with a moulded plinth and corner pilasters that frame blind traceried panels displaying the dedication and names of the fallen. The pedestal is topped with a cushion base that supports a slender, tapered shaft, which transitions to a hexagonal shape and culminates in a cross. The memorial is prominently located within a roundabout, serving as a focal point for all routes entering the town.
