Description
The Yarm War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with some additions made in the late 20th century. It is made from local red sandstone and features polished black marble plaques. The memorial is located in a central area just outside the Grade II-listed town hall. It is designed as a tall Latin cross with octagonal arms and shaft, resting on an octagonal plinth and a two-stepped octagonal base. Each of the eight sides of the plinth displays a polished black marble plaque that lists inscriptions and names arranged by surname. The inscriptions read: "TO / THE MEMORY OF / OUR GLORIOUS DEAD / THE GREAT WAR / 1914 - 1918 / AND / WORLD WAR / 1939 - 45 and THEY ARE CROWNED / WITH THE GARLAND / OF IMMORTALITY."
