Description
Butts Cottage and Woodside Cottage are a pair of houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of coursed dressed sandstone with ashlar dressings, and limestone is used at the rear. The houses have a red tile roof and are two storeys high, featuring a three plus two-window range. The corners are marked by chamfer-rusticated quoins. The division between the two houses is highlighted by a recessed panel with an arched head supported by corbels.
Woodside Cottage, which is on the left, has a central four-panel door set in an ashlar surround with moulded imposts, a plain lintel, and a cornice. It features projecting stone sills and plain surrounds for the six-over-six sash windows on the ground floor and three-over-six sash windows on the first floor. Butts Cottage, on the right, has a similar design but is asymmetrical, with the door positioned to the right and a small casement window next to it. The interior has not been inspected.
