Description

Church Farmhouse and the attached cottage are located on the south side of High Street in Thornton Dale. This building dates back to the 17th century and has been raised, subdivided, and extended in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a French tile roof with rebuilt brick stacks. Originally, the structure had a three-cell, through-passage plan, with a service wing added to the left rear.

The building is two stories high on the left end, with a two-window facade, while the low end is a single story. There is a four-panel door on the low end, positioned to the left. The high end has two-light small-pane horizontal sliding sash windows on both floors, along with a fixed-light fire window on the ground floor to the right and a similar small window to the left of center. The windows on the low end are 20th-century insertions. All openings feature thin timber lintels, and there are end stacks at the high end.

Inside, two pairs of full, jointed crucks with collars and apex saddles are preserved in the cross walls of the rooms on either side of the through passage. A bressummer beam in the first room to the left is made from a reused cruck blade. Additionally, there is a low 18th-century panelled door with H-L hinges leading to the ground floor end room on the left.
