Description
Brown House Farmhouse and the attached barn are located in Thornton-in-Craven. The farmhouse, likely built in the late 18th century, features squared rubble construction and a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with two bays and has recessed square mullion windows with three lights, along with a gabled porch and two chimney stacks. The barn, which is probably from the 17th century, is attached to the farmhouse without any noticeable break in the masonry. It has four dressed doorways with slightly chamfered heads and chamfered breathers. The barn's roof includes a king post and angle strut design, and three breathers are still visible in the party wall, indicating that the barn was unusually freestanding at one time.
