Description
Throstle Nest and Throstle Nest Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, with a 19th-century addition. The house is built of dressed stone, while the cottage is roughcast, both under stone slate roofs. It stands three storeys tall, with the house front featuring three symmetrical bays. The doorcase has an eared architrave and pediment, flanked by square 19th-century bays. The outer windows on the upper floors have plain stone surrounds, and the central windows have an added fillet. The first-floor windows are sashed without glazing bars, while the second-floor windows are casements. At the rear, there are stone mullion windows, including one round-headed window with intersecting glazing bars. This round-headed feature is also found on the gable end of the cottage, which may have originally served as the service wing. The fenestration is irregular, mainly consisting of three-light recessed square mullion windows with hoodmoulds, with sashes only in the central light. The building has three ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
