Description

THORNTON DALE HIGH STREET SE 8383 (north side) 14/102 Old Bar Cottage (formerly part of The Fox and Hounds public house) GV II House. C17 with C20 alterations. Cruck-framed, encased in squared sandstone; pantile roof; brick stacks. Single storey and attic; 2-window front. Central C20 board door flanked by 3-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sashes, all with renewed timber lintels. Raking dormers with 3- light casements to attic. Stacks to end right and left of centre piercing roof pitch to rear. Interior: a pair of crucks is said to survive over the cross beam in the room to right but are no longer visible.
