Description
Martin Garth is a house located on Main Street in Hutton Buscel, dating from the early 17th century, with later alterations and a remodel around 1950. The building features a cruck frame encased in coursed limestone rubble, with sandstone quoins and dressings, and has a pantile roof with brick stacks. It is a single-storey structure with an attic and a three-window front.
On the front, there is a 20th-century door positioned to the right, which is set in a quoined and chamfered surround, with a roughly arched lintel. The window openings have been modified; the ground-floor windows have been enlarged, and the first-floor windows have been raised to create half-dormers. The windows are square latticed casements with renewed lintels. There are brick stacks at both ends and one in the center left.
On the left gable wall, there is a blocked two-light window opening that retains its chamfered surround and chamfered mullion. Inside, the ground-floor room to the right features a large stone fireplace with chamfered stopped jambs and a lintel made of two pieces. On the first floor, two pairs of raised, cross-apex crucks with collars can be seen on the landing and in the center room.
