Description
The Forge and attached outbuildings, now a house, date from the early 18th century, with a late 18th century extension and 20th century modernisation. The building is constructed of coursed rubble sandstone with limestone quoins and features a pantile roof with brick stacks. It has a three-cell hearth-passage plan with an added outshut and a three-window front across two low storeys. A 20th century board door with a divided overlight is located to the right of centre. The ground-floor windows are three-light, small-pane horizontal sliding sashes, while the first floor has similar two-light windows. All openings have thin timber lintels, and there are stacks at the ends and right of centre. At the rear, there is a single-storey outshut with two-light, small-pane horizontal sliding sashes. Inside, the forge, which is now part of the house, retains a brick-built hearth and firehood. The interior features chamfered beams throughout the ground floor, and several cupboards with H-L and L hinges are still present.
