Description

This is a mile-post dating from the late 19th century, likely created by Mattisons of Bedale. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with a semicircular head. The left face features the inscriptions "PICKERING 4½ SCARBORO," while the right face reads "KIRBYMOORSIDE 3 HELMSLEY." The sloping upper face displays "PICKERING RDC," and the semicircular head is inscribed with "NORTH RIDING OF YORKSHIRE." The mile-post is located on the old road through the village, which was replaced by a bypass in 1938.
