Description
Wesleyan Methodist Church is a Methodist Chapel built in the early 19th century, which was later refronted and extended at the rear. The church is constructed from dressed sandstone, featuring chamfered sandstone ashlar quoins on the front and a chamfered sandstone ashlar plinth. The rear has squared limestone returns with tooled flush quoins. It has a plain slate roof with shaped slates inset and is a single-storey building with a two-bay front.
The entrance features a round-arched doorcase with a rusticated archivolt on ashlar jambs, topped with a keystone that has a carved figure in high relief. The door is panelled and has a radial fanlight above it. Above the door, there is a segmental recess surrounded by long and short chamfered blocks that contains a clock, with the inscription "Wesleyan Methodist Church" above it. The full-height windows on either side of the entrance are round-arched sashes with Gothick glazing in the heads, set in architraves with vermiculate imposts and keystones. The stone sills are supported by nailhead brackets. There is a plain impost band and a cavetto-moulded eaves cornice, and the roof is hipped.
At the rear, there is an original round-arched sash window with glazing bars and a Gothick head, set in a tooled keyed surround with a stone sill.
